Franklin County Public Schools
Most newcomers to Franklin County are attracted by the rural atmosphere, lower cost of living, and accessibility of urban areas, such as Raleigh and Durham. But as more expansion occurs throughout the area, more and more families are drawn in by the local school system’s dedication to bringing success into their children’s life.
The Franklin County School System consists of 13 schools that serve more than 8,000 students at seven elementary schools, three middle schools, and three high schools. The district prides itself on its commitment to a home-school-community partnership, ensuring that at all points a student is somehow connected to an educational resource. In more recent years more rigorous courses and more academically demanding classes have prevailed, but students have proven to flourish under the pressures. The high schools offer a Tech Prep program and core curriculum opportunities which prepare students for 4-year college, community college, the military, or the workplace.
Franklin County provides many programs which make it unique:
- Accelerated Readers and Accelerated Math Programs for elementary and middle school students
- Study Island, a test-prep program for all ages
- Empowering Writer’s Program
- Whole Faculty Study Group, an opportunity for teachers to come together and join heads to ensure that students succeed
- Biotechnology course, Franklinton High is the first high school to offer this course in the state
- Three schools named as Schools of Distinction
- Drop-out prevention counselors, which proved effective with a 50% decline in drop-out rates over the past five years.
